Yes, Etsy is a racist organisation. I recently started another Etsy shop. I just posted my first ever post on the Etsy “community” forums. This is what I said, here it is, more or less (albeit without the image because images are not allowed because images might offend people):

This is not something I support. It is clearly racist. And discriminatory.
It’s favouritism of black-owned Etsy businesses and at the same time it’s discrimination AGAINST white-owned businesses.
It even goes against Etsy’s very own “Anti-Discrimination and Hate Speech Policy”:

Because I think you have made a drastically large error.

And guess what happened? The post was secretly locked, although the thread doesn’t say “locked”. And my posting “privileges” were instantly revoked. I don’t know if that was temporary, or what. But it’s pretty clear to me that the Etsy “community” forums are a very politically biased place.

It got one reply along the lines of “It’s a private business. If you don’t like it, leave”. And that was it. Not even any discussion about the matter!

(Despite the fact that Etsy is listed on the stock exchange, which makes it a “publicly traded company“, which obviously makes it a company owned by the public. Etsy is not a private company.)

Did I say something that bad? Is it me? What’s wrong with these people?! The worst part is that nobody could even SEE the post. It vanished! It’s only visible if you use the search function or happen to look at my [now banned] profile. It seems to me that censorship is rife on the Etsy community forums.

And it’s not the first time someone has raised the subject and had their perfectly valid opinions quashed. the moderators over at the Etsy “community” forums will basically lock anything that they don’t like the sounds of. If you have an opinion, tough cookies, you’re out of luck.

All of these threads have been locked by close-minded Etsy moderators. All of them. All.

Of course I could leave it there exactly where it is and pretend that I’m in control (for a while). But I’m not an idiot.  I’m being forced to take the video down. Threatened. Blackmailed. Because If I don’t, no doubt several months will go buy and I’ll find myself in court. And when I can’t pay the $2.1 million dollar fine, sitting in prison wondering what all the fuss is about.

So when I get my main computer up and running again, the one with the ftp software/access on it, some time later this week I expect, it’ll surely happen. Because right now my main computer is in pieces and awaiting repairs (thanks apple for making it easy to upgrade the SSD in your imacs, not).

I certainly wouldn’t want to be accused of being “reckless” facing prosecution. Would I? They’ll be labelling me a terrorist next. So yeah. I’ll reluctantly take the video down. But I won’t forget.

I won’t forget that it’s okay to broadcast islamic terror attacks provided they are perpetrated by muslims. Isn’t that “racist” though?

I seem to recall a video of a man walking into a cathedral in Sri Lanka and blowing everyone to smithereens. But that’s okay. That video is not censored or banned. Why not? Those videos are deemed as “acceptable”. I guess. And so are all the September 11 videos of jumbo jets colliding with buildings… That’s okay. Isn’t it?

I suppose they’d have a mightily hard fucking job over at the eSafety commission taking down THOUSANDS of videos/references of those now wouldn’t they?

So it seems to me that the eSafety commission is a very lazy, racist organisation. The eSafety commission would probably have to be about 50 or 100 times as big as it is now to deal with all of the islamic attacks! Wouldn’t it? Let’s not forget that Africa is experiencing almost daily Boko Haram and Al Shabaab attacks…

But they don’t want people to know about all these attacks. No they don’t. They want to keep us in the dark, like mushrooms. That’s the real point. They want to sweep Islam’s problems under the rug, and forget about them until its all too late to be able to deal with.

Now if you know anything about this blog, you know that my top priority is biodiversity. Followed by art and design. It’s not people’s feelings. This was never going to go well…

I recently found myself at the Etsy “community” forum after subconsciously clicking on one of their dashboard posts. Apparantly only 2% of Etsy users are active forum members. After a brief interaction with some of the members I can see why. I’d just like to say to the Etsy management that if you want to protect your little pro Etsy bubble, then you’d be better off not inviting the other 98% of people to that forum, because you’re going to get people disagreeing with other members and the Etsy moderators themselves.

My first ever post was promptly banned. Well okay. I was too blunt. I asked “Why is there so much craft on Etsy? Good art is now getting overlooked >> advertising“. I soon got my answer.

“Actually,  on Etsy together with vintage and supplies is HANDMADE.  Nowhere is art mentioned.  In fact for a long time,  there was not even a category for Art at the top of the page.  It was bundled in with home decor or something that I now forget.”

“My god what an arrogant post! And from someone who is selling something made out of a coffee packet and a rubber band! Do you consider that “art”???”

“There is room for a an oil painting and also a tulip drawn with crayons. Though why anyone would pay £45 for the crayon picture that looks like it was done by a 5 year old… is subjective.”

Keep in mind that mentioning specific listings in a negative context is apparantly strictly prohiobited on Etsy. Even so, this person got away with it.
Somewhere around this point, I realised that it was me who was in the wrong place. And so I promptly joined SaatchiArt.

It’s like these people have never even heard of the term #ZeroWasteEtsyShop. I tried again, this time with the environment in mind.

Strangely enough, the second post was also banned, mainly because members insisted on bringing up the first post and discriminating against me based on the content of that, hurling insults left right and centre. I was called ” annoying” and “horrible” and all sorts of things (which I can take). I would even be willing to accept overt levels of censorship.. if it were fair. What I don’t really like is biased censorship. And that’s what Etsy forums have become. A place where negative criticism of Etsy is not really allowed. If you go one step further and actually accuse a moderator of censorship, watch out!

Here are some of my comments that were deleted. Note that all of the other insults against me remain. How is that for neutral moderating NewScoresVintage?

Now I can take an insult, but it seems some people on the Etsy forums can’t. And so at least one moderator was called in, doing what he does best, moderating (another word for it is censoring). I kindly, plainly pointed it out to him, the blatant double standards and off-the-scale censorship levels. He proceeded to delete more of my posts. That’s when he sent me a message saying that I had a 7 day ban. Temporary 7 day Etsy community forum ban:

I replied with “Are you some kind of fascist?”, to which he could have replied “no”. Instead, the temporary 7 day Etsy “community” forum ban quickly became a permanent Etsy “community” forum ban. And that’s when I replied “Is your name Kim Jong-un?”. Clearly, this must have struck a nerve. Because I was already banned from posting anything on the forum. In fact can see less of that forum logged in than a non-user can. I certainly can’t send any private messages. That was one of the first privileges that I lost. So it’s like he was so miffed that he reported me afterwards. Either that or Etsy is just slow in responding.

Now apparantly replying to a ridiculous post ONCE now constitutes “hostility” and “targeted harassment” even though the very word “harassment” sort of implies you’d need to do this “harassment” repeatedly. Nope. Because that was followed by a politically correct letter from “Andréa” [possibly Andréa Moody] openly threatening to delete my entire shop if I didn’t shut up. Basically. If that isn’t the ultimate form of “discrimination” I don’t know what is. It certainly seems to be very hypocritcal.

I should point out that sooner than reply to that letter, I’d write this post. Because there is no way I can reply to that and not get myself into more trouble. And so I won’t.

How can you become a dissident artist in the West?

I‘m banned from facebook, twitter and even LinkedIn. Especially LinkedIn. I’ve already been banned from YouTube. I’m so banned from YouTube, I can’t even watch YouTube videos if I’m signed in to the corresponding google gmail account! That’s a pretty hardcore ban.

#TommyRobinson himself isn’t even that banned from YouTube. Right? And yet for some strange reason I am. My new YouTube channel that concerns learning languages doesn’t push any boundaries and so they allow that to stay. I’m banned from Quora. I’m banned from RedBubble. Pretty soon I will start to call myself a “dissident artist/designer”, because it appears that’s what I am.

I recently tried to get the Etsy “community” to be a little less junky, although that didn’t go so well. I didn’t mention any names. I just felt it needed to be said.

Because everyone there seems to be patting themselves on the back and congratulating one another as they encourage themselves to sell ever more crap. Wonderful! But the world does not need ever more crap. The world needs minimalism and zero waste. That’s what it needs.

But it was like poking a hornet’s nest. It was a lot like posting a hornet’s nest. Or maybe not? I’ve poked hornet’s nests back when I was a small child and didn’t have an affinity to wasps. And I got less of a reaction.

The moderators locked the thread after only a couple of pages, even though I only replied once. At least one of my replies was censored/deleted when I said “Craft is not art, that’s why it has it’s own special word: craft.” .

Perhaps they saw this as some kind of “attack” on the craft part of the arts & craft movement as a whole? It wasn’t meant to be. Crafters got very narky indeed, very defensive. Probably because subconciously a lot of them are indeed selling stuff that is basically absolutely unecessary. Bloody non-zero waste crafters! CAno not they take any form of constructive criticsm?

Next, shortly after pointing out the lowering standards on Etsy, I mentioned the zero waste movement. And that didn’t seem to resonate with the Etsy community either.

Of course at least one member mentioned the previous “anti cheap craft” post (and that’s a form of discrimination, isn’t it?). They called me an art snob. Which is fine, because maybe I am? Whatever. I don’t care. I am an art, illustration and design snob then. I fully admit it. I don’t try to censor people for saying anything about my shop or art in general. I can take it.

If I had have continued along this “go against the grain” approach, I’m reasonably confident that before too long I would have been booted off that Etsy forum. I won’t be doing this however because I am making money from my Etsy shop.

So I am completely done with the Etsy community, after publishing only two posts on their forums. I have promised myself that I won’t ever get involved in it ever again. I’ve turned off all of their email notifications.

UPDATE: It turns out that despite my promise of more involvement, Etsy decided to ban me for a week anyway. Because I talked about zero waste. Because I wasn’t “politically correct”. but the kicker is that now they are promoting upcycling. That’s okay, I’m not that miffed, becaus ethat was my original goal. But they did treat me very differently and the reception this woman is getting is completely different from mine a few days earlier.

Now keep in mind that I am banned from practically all social media, because I appear to say things that people are afraid to say. I am politically incorrect. I don’t try to be intentionally politically incorrect. I just am.

And so I only have instagram left. All that remains is instagram. The visual social media platform. It’s a lot harder to offend people, visually speaking. Not that I’ve tried or want to.

Does Ebay and Etsy count as social media? Not really… even so, I got one of my listings banned from Ebay. I tried to sell live worms. I did sell one bucket of live worms. But that was a big no no apparantly, selling compost worms. I must be a “bad” person or something.

So anyway, if you actually want to be banned from Etsy, if that’s intentionally your desire, then all you would need to do is attack the craft movement. First, call your shop “CraftWars”. Just create any old gloomy-looking series of abstract artworks and call them “art is better than craft”; “art vs craft”; “craft is not art”, etc. You don’t have to even write that on your artwork, just title it that. And then keep doing that. Post on the forums. That’s all you really have to do. And I predict that before long, you’ll be banned. Because 80% of the stuff sold on Etsy is craft shit. Right? So there you go.

For instance, if you criticise muslims –or even multiculturalism– today, if you do it enough to form some kind of noticable “anti-islamic pattern” of behaviour, you’ll promptly be banned. And this may happen sooner than you think. I’m fairly certain that if I sold my previous YouTube’s content on Ebay, it would be taken down. If I kept relisting it, I’d be setting myself up for a blanket Ebay ban. And I don’t want that, because I find Ebay useful.

UPDATE 2: It also appears I’ve now been shadow-banned from instagram, because I can’t upload any new photos. I tried at least five times. I can comment, I can like, but I can’t post. Very strange. I only found out about this when I tried to post the etsy forum ban screenshot to instagram.
